Solar Paper takes solar pocket chargers to the next level

Existing solar chargers for mobile gadgets are low-powered or have large dimensions, which does not allow them to be used effectively. However, a working prototype of a 10W solar power source has recently been created. This is enough for an output current of 2 A at a standard voltage of 5 V, which means that such a source will be able to charge gadgets faster than ever.

The panels developed for the innovative charger are only 1.5 mm thick, which was the reason to call them Solar Paper. In terms of dimensions, the charging dock is slightly larger than the iPhone 6 Plus, but lighter. The general dimensions of the charger are 9 x 19 x 1, 1 cm, weight 120 g.

It is fundamentally important that solar paper is not afraid of moisture getting on it. The modular design allows up to 4 panels to be connected in series to obtain the required power. Built-in magnets provide a secure connection. The developers have equipped their gadget with an LCD screen that reflects the output power, which allows you to determine the optimal position of the panels.

The manufacturer plans to bring solar paper to market in September 2015. Orders are accepted in the range of $ 65 for 5W modules, up to $ 450 for a set of 4 10W modules.
